Printmaking and the artist/activist group
CultureStrike co-hosted a large scale printing event during the
SGCI 2014 conference. Fifteen artists with a stake in the debate were invited to create large-scale steamroller-printed relief blocks printed on muslin. The banners produced at this event will be used as banners in marches and protests, that will be part of Culturestrike's mission to 'educate the public about the devastating effects of our nation’s policies toward immigrants, while mobilizing communities to fight discriminatory immigration laws nationwide.' The prints produced dealt specifically with border policies and immigrant rights in the United States. With a generous supply of
Drive By Black ink donated by Drive By Press & Gamblin, rollers started rolling at 10 AM and continued non-stop through the rainy day until 6 PM. The event was located in a vacant city lot next door to
Mullowney Printing in the Mission District.
