SGCI 2014: Traditions & Taboos

P1100054

SGCI 2014 was full of great group exhibitions sprinkled around the city. I was under strict orders from one of my students to go see the Traditions & Taboos show, and it was well worth the trouble.

“In conjunction with the 2014 Southern Graphics Council International Conference in San Francisco, Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce Traditions & Taboos, a group exhibition presented by Mullowney Printing and Raking Light Projects. Traditions & Taboos highlights the parallels between the tattoo and printmaking worlds through copper etchings of tattoo illustrations. These etchings highlight the outrageous and inventive artistic styles of today’s top contemporary tattooists while paying homage to the long history of traditional techniques, democratic image making and distribution of printmaking media.”

Including work by, Tim Lehi and Jeff Rassier from Black Heart Tattoo, SF; Steve Boltz, Bert Krak, Eli Quinters, and Dan Santoro from Smith Street Tattoo Parlour, Brooklyn; Horitomo from State of Grace, San Jose; Don Ed Hardy, Mary Joy, Jen Lee, and Kahlil Rintye from Tattoo City, SF
