Solo(s) Project House presents an exhibition of new work of artist,
Ariana Barat. The exhibition “Maison de Chevaux” will be on view from January 11th – March 21st, 2014 in Newark, NJ.
Maison de Chevaux, translated to “House of Horses” is an exploration of the horse as symbols of conflict, conquest, freedom and repression. Barat’s work depicts the continuity of time though woven narratives that braid past artistic styles with modern aesthetics as her drawings are layered with images that reference history and our contemporary culture. Through her examination of power, the artist places one foot in the past and the other in the fantastical space of the epic, creating fictional narratives that simultaneously seduce and implicate the audience. The characters in her environments undergo various power struggles and the use of repetition in her compositions proclaims the cyclical tendencies of the abuse of power throughout history.
