Second State Press Grand Opening!

Second State Press describes itself as Philadelphia’s newest communal non-profit printmaking workshop. And after a few months of hype they are open for the business! Last weekend a Printeresting contributor made their way over to the Crane Arts Building in Northern Liberties to see what all the fuss was about. He found a giant space, full of equipment and ready to be over-run with printmakers. With equipment to suit nearly any configuration of print processes, including intaglio, litho (they got stones!), screen, letterpress, not to mention relief & monoprint. This has all the makings of a new community hub.

This day-long event was a who-is-who of the local print community. It must have been the beer and snacks that brought us out in droves.

Second State may be the new kid on the block but it looks like they are making good decisions and doing things right the first time with a very reasonably priced membership and usage options, and future plans for workshops and classes.

I hope the large Philly print community embraces this new space to work.

Every print studio should have a small ornamental dog.
