BOOMBOX: Posters, Posters & Posters!

Rock Posters!

While in Chicago for SGC I was lucky enough to make it to the closing reception of BOOMBOX a show curated by Kim Ambriz and  James Iannaccone, Assistant Director of Anchor Graphics , exhibited at  Heaven Gallery, a nonprofit gallery/project space located on the 2nd floor of 1550 N. Milwaukee. Here’s the exhibition blurb:

Since the rise of blues and jazz in the early parts of the 20th century, Chicago has been a hotbed for music. Over the last two decades, Chicago’s visual artists and graphic designers have joined this cultural ferment by lending their talents to the current generation of musicians. Through designing show posters, album covers and t-shirts, these artists have given a unique visual presence to diverse audio experiences. This exhibition gathers recent screenprint and letterpress posters by some of the local stars bringing together Chicago’s visual art and music scenes.

Participating artists in this huge show included: Damon Locks, Dan Grzeca, Daniel MacAdam, Diana Sudyka, Ethan D’ercole, Jason Teegarden-Downs, Jay Ryan, John Solimine, Jennifer Farrell, Kathleen Judge, Keith Herzik, Mat Daly, Nick Butcher, Nadine Nakanishi. Many cities have a local poster scene, but few can rival chicago for the shear quantity and amazing quality and range of work produced in service to their bustling music scene. They even have their own section in the Chicago Reader, The Screen Scene by Liz Armstrong.

If your work isn’t credited or is miss-attributed, I’m sorry it was a crazy opening with too much great work. If you let me know I’ll make the changes post-haste.
