Chicago-style Printmaking (SGC)
The conference jumps into full swing tomorrow with talks, panels, and openings. Today was a slower day consisting mostly of people trickling into town taking care of registration. A number of galleries were open so…
Here are some pictures- most are of individual works because installation shots of rooms full of framed work tend to look boring. Apologies for the quality (or lack of). A lot of these have weird glares but we should have access to higher quality, professional shots at some point in the near future. We’ll have our interns update the post.
First up… the IPCNY has shipped their New Prints 2009/Winter exhibition to Columbia College. By chance, Anne Coffin of IPCNY was in the gallery as I passed through. She’s one of the conference’s guest speakers and is scheduled to give a talk on Friday. Here’s a selection from the show (some of the titling and size info is missing).
Karen Lederer, Dropped Youth, Etching, Collagraphy, & Resin, 48″x36″.
Buzz Spector, EXPLETIVE #2, Handmade Paper & Yarn, 10″x37″.
Quintin Gonzalez, silkscreen printed at Coronado Studios.
Mark Wilson, Inkjet Print (22″x22″).
Willie Cole, 4-color Lithograph, 29″x22 1/8″.
Sarah Nicole Phillips, Sunbeam, Aquatint & Crushed Silicon Solar Cells(!), 11″x15″.
Takuji Hamanaka, Woobblock & Chne Colle, 12 1/4″x10″.
Sharing the same space at 1006 S. Michigan Avenue was Contemporary Prints from Australia curated by Fred Hagstrom and Ron McBurnie. A lot of the work was large scale. Here’s one installation shot and two images of Rew Hanks’ linocuts.
Rew Hanks, linocut about 24″x38″.
Rew Hanks, “It’s Not Only Black or White”, linocut 38 1/4″x29 1/2″.
And some work from an adjacent project space…
A small hand-colored Litho by Stephanie Standish.
Some collage, acrylic, & colored paper pieces by Jennifer Yorke.
A close up of one the pieces from above by Jennifer Yorke.
From the SGC Traveling Exhibition at Columbia’s C33 Gallery. I didn’t get any info on these pieces other than artist names.
Frances Myers. Close-up from the picture above.
Diana Behl (sorry about the glare, Diana).
And lastly, Invasive, a two-person show of Nicola Lopez and Sandow Birk at the Rymer Galler of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
If for any reason, an artist or venue wants these images removed from Printeresting, just let us know and we’ll comply in a timely manner.
