Grand Dame of Printmaking

June Wayne at her home on Tamarind Ave in LA

I recently got to spend an evening with a group of printmakers at June Wayne’s home in Los Angeles, which is, of course, the original Tamarind Studio building. June is now 91, but as sharp witted as ever. My group sat around her on couches and chairs surrounded by prints, photos, and June’s tapestries, hanging onto her every word as she told us about the beginnings of her art career and a bit about Tamarind in the early days. (I had no idea that June was responsible for helping bring fine quality papers to the US including many which are now so commonplace we take them for granted!)

Her overwhelming advice, forget therapy, just keep making art.
