North to Southern Graphics

From Obama to Blagojevich, it seems like Chicago has been at the center of a media frenzy for the past year. So it’s quite timely that Global Implications, the 37th annual Southern Graphics Council Conference, is being held from March 25-29 in the Windy City. While SGC will come a few attendees shy of Obama’s Grant Park numbers, it should keep media* attention focused on the city.

Hosted by Columbia College Chicago, the conference “features exhibitions, demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions, private collection viewings, and special events at over 40 locations around Chicago.” A few highlights of SGC 2009 look to be keynote speakers Kathan Brown of Crown Point Press, Enrique Chagoya, IPCNY Founder/Director Anne Coffin, and Jane Hammond. In addition to numerous group exhibitions it looks like Warrington Colescott and Adrienne Herman will be having solo shows and there’s a two-person show featuring Nicola Lopez and Sandow Birk (both discussed in a few of our past posts).

For the uninitiated, here’s some video by Hot Iron Press‘s Kyle Bravo. The footage was shot at last year’s Command Print conference in Richmond, VA conference.

At least a few of us here at Printeresting are planning on attending the conference this year and hoping to do some posts. We’re curious to know if people are going and what people are excited about. John Hitchcock‘s Satisfaction Town is supposed to be a hot ticket… what else? Any thoughts on the can’t-be-missed event or events? Anticipated highlights, etc? Anything not on the schedule that people should check out? Make a comment.
*In this case, “media” is referring specifically to Printeresting.

I’m just excited to attend right now, I haven’t even started reserving space in the limited exhibits and demos. I haven’t been in a few years.

I will be there. I have work in the group show:
