Dora Lisa Rosenbaum

Dora Lisa Rosenbaum is a print artist living and working in Bloomington, Indiana. Brief interview after the jump.

How did you come to making prints or print-related work?
I discovered printmaking my junior year of college. I immediately
became totally invested in the process and have been working with
print-media ever since.

Where do you find inspiration for the work you do?
I look at everyday objects for inspiration. My work is based on our
daily surroundings and routines- what we eat, where/how we shop, what
we buy, and how we decorate our homes and our selves. I like to look
specifically at the practices and the objects of the place where I am
living. I do a lot of my research in supermarkets, convenience/
discount stores, and malls…

Can you say a few words about your studio practice?
I have been working on several large bodies of work and moving from
one to the other. I feel that the conceptual basis of my work is
evolving rapidly, while my studio practice continues to be quite
meticulous and very labor intensive and I am currently trying to
reconcile the two- focusing on both working with and developing new
ideas and allowing time to fully resolve and consider the objects I
create.

What is the most exciting trend in contemporary print?
Many artists are developing very exciting ways of working with print
that extend the boundaries of the medium and give it new energy. I
find mixed media and installation pieces based on print-media to be
very interesting both visually and conceptually. I think many
approaches in contemporary print make use of the strengths of the
medium, while not getting lost in aspects of process and technique.

Any news or upcoming projects to share?
I am currently at a month long residency at the Vermont Studio
Center, in Johnson, Vermont…awesome place! I am looking forward to a
solo show in November and to completing my MFA in the spring.
